讲座题目：A Future in Mathematics
主 讲 人：Dr. Lee Fawcett
Mathematics is all around us. If you study any STEM-related subject (Science，Technology，Engineering and Mathematics) you need to be a competent Mathematician，but the reach of Mathematics is wider than just that - it permeates many other fields，including Medicine, Politics and the Humanities and Social Sciences too. In fact，we use probability，and odds，to make every-day decisions about the most trivial things! In this talk, we will showcase some of the exciting application areas of Mathematics and Statistics, before covering the basics of studying in a Mathematics-related discipline at Newcastle University. Through a special partnership between Newcastle University and Jiangnan University，you might be eligible to study with us for two years, to experience life as an undergraduate Mathematician at one of the UK's most exciting cities.
Dr. Lee Fawcett is a Senior Lecturer in Statistics in the School of Mathematics， Statistics & Physics at Newcastle University in the UK. His research focuses on the use of statistical models to predict climate extremes. He is currently the Royal Statistical Society's William Guy Lecturer and a National Teaching Fellow in the UK. He teaches Mathematics and Statistics to a range of students at Newcastle University，from freshmen taking degrees in Engineering through to Masters students in Mathematics and Statistics.
